Sharife Cooper is only Auburn Basketball’s second 5-star recruit ever. Mustapha Heron was Auburn’s first. Cooper, a flashy point guard, can score inside and out. He’s one of the best finishing guards I’ve seen in a while. He’s not like recent Auburn point guards like Jared Harper, Davion Mitchell or J’Von McCormick. He’s not a speed player. He’s a smooth player. And while Auburn’s recent point guards have been able to knock down threes, they’ve not done it at the rate Sharife Cooper does. Also passing is one thing Bruce Pearl looks for in a guard. Cooper has those traits to be a great passer. He’s also not afraid to drive in on a much bigger defender. He’s like a snake wiggling through tight spaces getting to the basket. But the one thing Cooper has to improve on is his defense. Sometimes he doesn’t give it full effort. But that’s something Coach Pearl can and will fix. So there’s no need to reach into the transfer portal to grab a solid guard. While Cooper hasn’t earned the starting spot as he’ll have to compete with Tyrell Jones, i expect him to eventually. War Eagle. @CooperSharife
