Although it’s not very important, numbers are one of the coolest things in sports. Does it make a player better? No. Not at all. But it does define a player. Today I’ll try and guess which numbers these incoming Auburn freshmen will wear. Because the Auburn athletics website is always incredibly late on updating its previous roster. So the only thing we can do for now is guess. Note that I’m leaving out offensive linemen because, nobody really cares which numbers offensive lineman wear. Also remember a number can be occupied by two players as long as they play on opposite sides of the ball.
Tank Bigsby / Running back
Bigsby, the potential starting running back for Auburn, wore #4 in high school. #4 is open on offense so I think he’ll wear #4 on the Plains.
Zykevious Walker / Defensive End
An instant impact player, Walker wore #10 in high school, but I think he may wear #3 for Auburn replacing Marlon Davidson.
Kobe Hudson / Wide Reciever + Quarterback
Kobe Hudson will play receiver at Auburn, but he can’t wear his high school number #2. That number is retired by Cam Newton. I think Hudson will wear #1 for the Tigers.
Ladarius Tennison / Safety
Ladarius Tennison, a small safety, wore #3 in high school. With us predicting Walker wearing #3, Tennison might wear #20 in college.
Chris Thompson Jr / Safety
Chris Thompson wore #5 in high school. Since Derrick Brown is gone, #5 on defense will be open. That should be Thompson’s choice.
Romello Height / Linebacker
Romello Height, a fast linebacker, wore #3 in his high school days. Info from Wikipedia says he’s wearing #37. Guess we’ll go with that.
Chayil Garnett / Quarterback
Chayil Garnett, a great passer, wore #8 as a high school quarterback. I predict him to wear #15 on the Plains.
Wesley Steiner / Linebacker
Steiner, a star linebacker had #22 in high school. But I think he’ll go with a more linebacker number. How about #54.
Jay Hardy / Defensive Tackle
A monstrous defender, Jay Hardy wore #8 in high school. I think he’ll now take #91 at Auburn. It is just a guess after all.
Ze’Vian Capers / Wide Receiver
Speedy receiver Ze’Vian Capers wore #23 in high school. I think he’ll stay #23 in college.
JJ Evans / Wide Receiver
JJ Evans was #1 and #9 in his high school career. Both will be open but I think he’ll go #9.
Eric Reed / Safety
Eric Reed claimed #1 in high school. Now I think he’ll take #24 for Auburn.
Jeremiah Pegues / Tight End
JJ Pegues was #5 in high school. I predict the big tight end to choose #89 for the Tigers.
Desmond Tisdol / Linebacker
Tisdol, like a lot of other signees, wore #3 in high school. I think he’ll switch to #30 in AU.
Deandre Butler / Defesive End
Dre Butler, a junior college defender, was #5 in JUCO. I think he’ll go #95 on the Plains.
Cameron Riley / Linebacker
Cameron Riley was the intimidating #7 in high school. That number is retired by Pat Sullivan, but I think Riley will be #51 in a Tigers jersey.
Brandon Frazier / Tight End
Brandon Frazier was #5 in high school but he’ll likely be #87 as an Auburn athlete.
Marco Domio / Cornerback
Marco Domio, another JUCO prospect, was #8 at Blinn College. I think He’ll switch to #19 in an Auburn jersey.
Daniel Foster-Allen / Defensive End
Foster-Allen was #90 in high school. I think he’ll wear #90 in college too.
Elijah Canion / Wide Receiver
Another instant impact player, Canion wore #18 in high school. He can’t wear that but he can wear #17.
Marquis Burks / Defensive Tackle
Burks was #2 in CC. I think he’ll be #99 in a navy uniform.
War Eagle.
