Tigers are obsessed with landing Virginia Tech commit

Auburn has a lot of options at quarterback for its 2021 class. I thought their favorite passers were Kaidon Salter and Kyron Drones. But recently there’s a new name on the quarterback list that’s soaring above Salter and Drones. His name is Dematrius Davis. The Hokies commit is an all out stud. And boy when I saw his highlights, my oh my. That kid can pass, he can run, he can do it all. He’s the perfect Gus Malzahn quarterback. I can’t think of any better comparison for Davis than Miami quarterback D’Eriq King. The two are nearly identical. If you want to see what I mean, simply compare the two athletes. It’s incredible. Also, last season Davis had a very highly recruited teammate. Zachary Evans, a top ten running back recruit, played with Davis at North Shore in Texas. Auburn is obsessed with landing this guy. And for good reason. War Eagle!

Oregon to make bigger jumbotron than Auburn’s

Auburn has the biggest jumbo tron in College Football. Say that while you can because Oregon is making a bigger one. Although not much bigger, it is bigger. Of course, Oregon fans are happy because they can finally beat us in something. Just not on the field. I mean come on, this is about as significant as beating Auburn in chess or something. So don’t get to exited Oregon. War Eagle.

Despite no sports, there is a bright side

These are strange times. Everybody’s quarantined. People are losing their jobs by the day. Everyday less food is on the table for some families. That’s a sad thing. Some people are dying daily because of a warning that was made fun of rather than followed. There’s no sports. I never though even one week of no sports would make the world so boring. We don’t even have a sliver of watchable sports. It seems that any sport would be entertaining now days. Even soccer. I hate soccer. But there is a bright side to this whole no sports thing. There are countless people watching re-airs on ESPN and watching old games on YouTube. There are people looking back and seeing greatness and history. Sports’ history never seemed so historic until now. After all, it’s all we have. We can see the greatest moments in history. All the thrillers in March Madness, the College Football miracles, the NBA’s clutchest, the NFL’s most dominant, baseball’s best walkoffs. All of it is being seen right now. It’s all right here right now. So even though there’s no sports right now, at least we can reflect on what’s changed the games that we love. The great athlete’s, the best plays, the most shocking wins. It’s magnificent isn’t it. War Eagle.

No. 1 player in 2021 likes Auburn

Jonathan Kuminga is the next star. He’s the No. 1 player in the country in for 2021. The 6’8 forward is high on Duke, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia and Kentucky. It seems Auburn is really up there though. But there’s still lots of time for Kuminga’s top schools to develop. There was chatter that Kunminga would reclassify to 2020. But that news has died down and it’s uncertain where things stand with him. If he were to reclassify though, I think he’d pick Duke. But with the coronavirus locking down everything, I don’t expect him to reclassify or commit any time soon. War Eagle.

Greg Brown trending to Auburn??

Auburn will get two shots at a 5-star basketball prospect in April. One is Jalen Green. The other is Greg Brown. I’ve always thought Brown was warmer on Texas and Memphis but according to Auburn Hoops Fan Account on Twitter, Brown is closer to Auburn now. Here’s what the tweet said.

There have been whispers in recent weeks that Auburn has gained ground and taken the leader spot with just two weeks left in his commitment.

Is this news real? I’m not sure but I know Auburn Hoops Fan Account has accurately reported Auburn news multiple times before. As of where that news originated, is unknown. Let’s hope that news is real though. War Eagle.

Lovasea Carroll, an Auburn running back target, commits to Georgia

Disgusting when any player commits to Georgia. But it’s hilarious when every year they have the #1 recruiting class and can’t even win the SEC Championship. That’ll probably be the case this year and the year after. Well, Georgia got a big addition to their recruiting class with the commitment of IMG rusher Lovasea Carroll. He’s an Auburn target but who really cares anyway? Auburn has a much better runner committed in Armoni Goodwin. War Eagle.

Roger McCreary praised by Pro Football Focus

Roger McCreary played a big role for Auburn football in 2019. The cornerback who was ranked 989th in the country according to 247 Sports, was the 33rd best in PFF’s coverage grade among 419 other defensive backs. That’as mind blowing isn’t it? That means McCreary had a better year than hundreds of players who were ranked way ahead of him and yet, he played well and he came to Auburn as a player who was on the very edge of the radar and he proved he could do big things. He could’ve gone to somewhere like Arkansas, Vanderbilt or Georgia Tech where it’s much easier to get playing time. But no, the man chose Auburn and still but up elite numbers. Even though the upcoming junior didn’t start a single game, he played in all thirteen games. And the guy for the most part did really well. PFF says he’s Auburn’s best returning player for 2020. That’s a bold statement considering there’s guys like Bo Nix, Seth Williams, Big Kat Bryant, KJ Britt, and Smoke Monday that could make their case. But PFF may be onto something. Here’s what they said on McCreary.

“In his first season with considerable reps, Roger McCreary clearly did not disappoint. His PFF coverage grade sat at 81.1, which was 33rd of 419 qualifying cornerbacks. McCreary’s ball skills were exceptional — he consistently forced tight coverage and hardly lost at the catch point. He actually forced a contested target at one of the three highest rates on the outside (23 targets in total) and he allowed just nine to be caught while making 11 total plays on the ball.”

A look at the great receivers Chad Morris has developed

Chad Morris has had a lot of success in a passing offense. He’s also produced some fantastic receivers in his time at different schools. Here’s some of his greatest. At Clemson, Morris developed current NFL superstars Deandre Hopkins and Sammy Watkins. Then at SMU, another NFL star in Courtland Sutton. Morris also coached NFL tight end Charles Clay while at Tulsa. So Chad Morris can really ignite wide receivers to become great. Can he take already star studded Auburn receiver Seth Williams and turn him into a superstar too? I like the chances. War Eagle!

Breaking down every Auburn 2020 NFL Draft prospect

Derrick Brown – Senior – Defensive Tackle. You know who he is. Everyone does. He’s big, he’s bad, he’s a monster. Brown is the best run stopper in this year’s draft. He’s physical and strong. NFL teams have their eyes on him but he’ll only be available for the first few picks. He’s more than likely going to be a top 10 pick.

Draft Projections – around the 7th to 9th pick in the first round.

Teams interested – Jacksonville, Carolina, Arizona, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, and Denver.

His strengths – Brown is a giant and he’s fantastic at dominating any offensive lineman and even breaking through double teams.

His weaknesses – Just about the only thing he lacks is his dynamic pass rush ability. He’s not great at using his arms to swipe past the offensive line.

NFL Comparison – I’d compare Brown to a young Ndamukong Suh.

Noah Igbinoghene – Junior – Cornerback. Noah Igbinoghene started his freshman year as a wide receiver but played corner back in his last two years of college. He’s a great defender which means his development traits will stand out to NFL teams. He’s also a great kick returner. Igbinoghene’s draft stock has been rising recently. He appeared in the first round at #25 on one of CBS’s recent mock drafts.

Draft Projections – around the 27th pick of the first round to early second round.

Teams interested – San Francisco, Kansas City, Minnesota, Dallas, Philidelphia

His strengths – He has a nice bundle of speed, and his explosiveness and length provides him to be an elite defender.

His weaknesses – It’s hard to find a weakness in his play but maybe his aggressiveness could be better.

NFL Comparison – Definitely compares to Kareem Jackson.

Marlon Davidson – Senior – Defensive End. If anyone deserves to be a first round pick, it’s Marlon Davidson. His work ethic and high off ball explosiveness is a valuable asset for NFL Teams to have. He thrives to make a play every down. His speed is also something to note. As well as his position flexibility.

Draft Projections – Around the 29th pick of the first round to early second round.

Teams interested – Seattle, Green Bay, Kansas City, New England, Baltimore, and Tennessee.

His Strengths – high explosiveness and excellent hands and pass rush ability. Speed is also a factor.

His Weaknesses – sometimes Davidson lacks the push up the middle and the ability to split the gaps.

NFL Comparison – Compares to Matthew Judon.

Prince Tega Wanogho – Senior – Offensive Tackle. A Nigerian athlete, Prince Tega Wanogho brought much needed offensive line production to Auburn athletics. He’s big (6’7, 305), athletic, and his footwork is phenomenal. He’s appeared in a few first round mock drafts but none recently. But teams will have their eyes on him looking into day two.

Draft Projections – Probably mid-second round to late second round or if he slides, early third round.

Teams interested – Seattle, Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina, Miami, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Houston, Green Bay, Tennessee, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Minnesota, Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia.

His Strengths – Quick footwork. Sturdy pass blocker. He has big hands and can take on most any pass rushers in the SEC.

His Weaknesses – Has a hard time getting low before the defender does. But that’s common for young offensive linemen. And besides Wanogho is very tall which makes it harder for him to claim to low ground.

NFL Comparison – TJ Clemmings looks nearly identical to Wanogho when he plays.

Javaris Davis – Senior – Cornerback. Javaris Davis is one of the biggest potential gems in Auburn’s offense. He has some family members that played in the NFL. Vernon Davis is one of them. Javaris Davis is fast and he uses his hands a lot. He is a little undersized but we’ve seen players that fit Davis’ description do well at the next level.

Draft Projections – sixth round at the latest probably and the fifth round is probably where he’ll go.

Teams interested – New York Jets, Miami, New England, Detroit, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Dallas, New York Giants, Atlanta, and Los Angeles Rams.

His Strengths – Great speed and athleticism. Tight coverage in man-to-man defense.

His Weaknesses – Davis sometimes lacks the ability to catch up with the receiver after he’s beat. Also, his size isn’t that great at 5’8.

NFL Comparison – Jonathan Jones, a former Auburn corner is very similar to Davis.

Nick Coe – Junior – Defensive Line. Nick Coe didn’t see the year he’d hoped for in 2019. Considering he was preseason all-SEC and racked up very few stats, is not good. But he’s still talented and there’s still film of his electric 2018 season so he’s gonna draw some attention. Coe can play defensive end, outside linebacker, defensive tack, and maybe even nose tackle. He’s very flexible to fill any position.

Draft Projections – Probably third round or fourth round as of right now.

Teams interested – Jacksonville, Seattle, Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay, New England, Dallas, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Atlanta, Carolina, Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas.

His Strengths – Long frame and decent pass rush skills. Good use of hands. Lot’s of potential.

His Weaknesses – Lacks consistency. Needs more off ball exoplosiveness to become elite.

NFL Comparison – Robert Quinn

Jack Driscoll – Senior – Offensive Tackle. Jack Driscoll was a big help in the offensive line for Auburn the past two seasons. His firmness and patients is really good. Driscoll really wants a chance to play in the NFL and if he works at it and everything falls into place how it needs to, I think he’ll get that chance.

Draft Projections – At the highest probably late 5th round. It’s most likely he goes mid-sixth round.

Teams interested – Jacksonville, Tennessee, Cleveland, Detroit, Tampa Bay and more.

His Strengths – Like I said, he’s got some good firmness and good footwork. Also he redirects nicely.

His Weaknesses – Lacks length and power. If he was bigger and more powerful, we might be looking at a second round pick here.

NFL Comparison – Alex Mack is a good fit.

Marquel Harrell – Senior – Offensive Tackle. Marquel Harrell is a big prospect coming out of Auburn. The senior lineman has good size at 6’3, 309 lbs. I like his all around blocking. There’s not much to talk about Harrell but he’s a prospect I think a few teams are interested in him.

Draft Projections – Seventh round to undrafted.

Teams interested – Just a few teams here and there. I don’t really know which teams.

His Strengths – Harrell’s run blocking is good.

His Weaknesses – Lacks elite quickness.

Player Comparison – Greg Robinson, a former Auburn tackle.

Daniel Thomas – Senior – Safety. Daniel Thomas is probably one of the underrated prospects from Auburn. The safety is hard hitting, aware of coverage and a good open field tackler. He’s on the outside of the draft looking in but if teams take a chance on him, I don’t think they’ll regret it.

Draft Projections – If he’s lucky, late seventh round. But he probably won’t be drafted.

Teams interested – Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Minnesota and Las Vegas.

His Strengths – Hard hitting and great open field tackling. Decent coverage too.

His Weaknesses – Struggles against elite quarterbacks in tough environments.

NFL Comparison – Landon Collins

Jeremiah Dinson – Senior – Safety. A key in Auburn’s defense, Jeremiah Dinson was a great safety accompanying Daniel Thomas. Dinson has several similar attributes as Thomas. Great open field tackling and nice awareness. If Thomas can get a shot, Dinson will too. They’re very similar in playing styles and attributes.

Draft Projections – Pretty much the same as Thomas’, seventh round to undrafted.

Teams interested – Miami, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Los Angeles Rams and Carolina.

His Strengths – Nice steady speed and great open field tackling.

His Weakness – Struggles in some coverage plays.

NFL Comparison – Mike Adams

Kam Martin – Senior – Running back. Kam Martin could’ve transferred to somewhere like Liberty or Tulane to boost his NFL chances. But he didn’t. He chose to stay loyal through it all. And he deserves so much respect for that. He’s got some good play making abilities in his pocket.

Draft Projections – Unfortunately, probably undrafted.

Teams interested – unknown

His Strengths – Martin’s got a nice little jitter to him. As my grandmother said after she watched him as a freshman, “he’s just like a little water bug.”

His Weaknesses – Doesn’t posses that break away speed.

NFL Comparison – Darren Sproles

Arryn Siposs – Sophomore – Punter. An Australian native, Arryn Siposs had some nice moments on the Plains. Perhaps his best was not a kicking moment. Siposs lined up in an odd formation that won Auburn the game vs Alabama last year. Siposs has a unique spin on the ball when he punts.

Draft Projections – Definitely undrafted but I think he’ll get a shot on a practice squad.

Teams interested – unknown

His Strengths – Like I said, he puts a somewhat awkward spin on the ball which increases the chances of a muffed catch.

His Weaknesses – Siposs isn’t a distance punter.

NFL Comparison – N/A

Sweet Surprise? Auburn defensive back has stepped up his game training in Florida

Auburn is in need of some fresh talent at defensive back with the departure of four starters. Devan Barrett, who used to play running back for Auburn, has apparently stepped up his game while he’s been training with his best friend in Florida. Barrett has become more of a forgotten name by Tiger fans but maybe he’ll emerge this fall. We’ll find out soon enough. War Eagle!
