When should we expect Cam Newton to sign?

Cam Newton is an Auburn legend. Everyone knows that. The biggest question facing him in a long time is where will he sign in the NFL? His team, the Carolina Panthers, released him after 9 years. Apparently the Panthers had other plans and Newton wasn’t happy. So will he get another shot and when will it happen? Well, here’s what I know. Multiple teams rejected trades involving Newton. The New England Patriots are taking a hard stare at him. The Denver Broncos are probably the sleepers to land him. Newton hasn’t said anything regarding teams interested in him but he’s very “hungry” for another chance. I think we’re looking at a few different time tables here. He could sign any second now. He might be in talks right now with a team. Which would mean a deal probably tomorrow or the day after. I feel like any day now will be most likely. Then again, it could be weeks. If you’re a Cam Newton fan, you really don’t want this thing I like to call, the Dez Bryant scenario, to happen. Dez Bryant was a star receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. But in April of 2018, he was suddenly released. The guy was a star and people were going crazy over where he might sign. But guess what. No one signed him that year. He was signed a year later but by then, Dez Bryant was a nearly forgotten name. That’s what could happen to Cam Newton. It’s unlikely, but it was also unlikely for Bryant to not get signed. But, overall, expect Newton to be signed in a matter of days. That seams most likely. War Eagle! #AUNextLevel

Just how good is this Sharife Cooper kid?

Sharife Cooper is only Auburn Basketball’s second 5-star recruit ever. Mustapha Heron was Auburn’s first. Cooper, a flashy point guard, can score inside and out. He’s one of the best finishing guards I’ve seen in a while. He’s not like recent Auburn point guards like Jared Harper, Davion Mitchell or J’Von McCormick. He’s not a speed player. He’s a smooth player. And while Auburn’s recent point guards have been able to knock down threes, they’ve not done it at the rate Sharife Cooper does. Also passing is one thing Bruce Pearl looks for in a guard. Cooper has those traits to be a great passer. He’s also not afraid to drive in on a much bigger defender. He’s like a snake wiggling through tight spaces getting to the basket. But the one thing Cooper has to improve on is his defense. Sometimes he doesn’t give it full effort. But that’s something Coach Pearl can and will fix. So there’s no need to reach into the transfer portal to grab a solid guard. While Cooper hasn’t earned the starting spot as he’ll have to compete with Tyrell Jones, i expect him to eventually. War Eagle. @CooperSharife

Tokyo Olympics are postponed to 2021. How does that effect Auburn? Take a look

For a few quiet days, the news has been buzzing that the 2020 Olympics are now the 2021 Olympics due to threats of the coronavirus. That word coronavirus just sickens your stomach when you see it. I’m a little tired of it. But how does this effect Auburn in anyway? Well you see, if you know who Anthony Schwartz is, it effects him. Anthony Schwartz is a receiver on Auburn’s football team. But he’s also a track star. There was news that wasn’t heard very much after Auburn’s loss in the Outback Bowl to Minnesota. Apparently Schwartz told the reporters following that game, he’s pursuing his dream of being in the Olympics. He said if he made the Olympics, which was very likely, he’d probably stop playing football. But if he didn’t make it, he’d probably stop track. So, with no Olympics to try out for, does this confirm that Schwartz will return? The chances are really good. But right now, let’s all hope and pray that the virus suddenly dies down at a rapid rate so that we can enjoy a football season and getting out and about again.

Former Auburn running back gets new deal

Peyton Barber, a former Tiger has landed a new deal in the NFL. The former Bucaneers running back signed a 2-year deal with the Washington Redskins. Barber isn’t known well at Auburn. He was a low profile prospect in the draft but he managed to play significant games in the NFL and do well. While the running back depth is large in Washington, I think Barber has a decent chance to start. War Eagle! #AUNextLevel

Cam Newton released from Panthers. Where will he land?

Cam Newton was released from the only team he’s ever known on Tuesday. The former Auburn standout was drafted #1 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. In 2015 he made it to the Super Bowl and won the NFL’s MVP award. Since 2015, Newton has never been in his prime. So, will things get better for Cam after battling injuries year after year? That depends on where he goes in free agency. Here are his top landing spots.

LA Chargers

This is the most likely spot for Cam Newton to land. He’s an LA guy if I’ve ever seen one. The Chargers need a new field general. Their coach, Anthony Lynn, loves dual threat quarterbacks. And that’s something LA hasn’t had in a long, long time. If Newton lands in LA, he’ll have to compete with a quarterback who’s been down the road Newton has been down before. Tyrod Taylor was traded from his team and bounced around the NFL in recent years. It would surprise me if cam doesn’t sign in LA.

New England Patriots

Would Cam Newton go to New England. Would New England even take Cam? I wouldn’t be a fan of this since the Patriots have been used to non-mobile quarterbacks in the past and the receiver group in Foxboro is one of the worst in the NFL. But on the bright side, that would mean two quarterbacks from Auburn would be on the Pats roster. But I don’t think Cam fits in New England. But this is a potential move that could be made.

Miami Dolphins

While the Dolphins are expected to draft a quarterback like Tua, signing Cam Newton is actually a great interest of Miami’s. His mobile presence and ability to heave the ball down field is valuable to the Dolphins. And the receiving core in Miami isn’t that bad. Which means Newton would have better receivers to throw the ball to. And Miami, like LA, is a big destination for entertainment, relaxation, and fun.

Washington Redskins

If I’d made this list yesterday, the Redskins would be at the top of this list. Why? One, Cam’s old coach, Ron Rivera is now in Washington. Two, the skins have a very young quarterback who needs to learn behind a great. And I find it very unlikely for the Redskins to draft a quarterback in the first round since they did in the 2019 draft. So the chances of Newton signing with Washington sound great right? So why are they down here if yesterday they would’ve been at the top of the list? Because the Carolina Panthers traded one of their quarterbacks to Washington so I doubt they’d pick up Newton because that would crowd their quarterback room. But it’s still very possible.

Is Samir Doughty good enough for the NBA?

Auburn Senior Samir Doughty is looking to make his presence known by NBA scouts. He has some valuable assets that are useful in the NBA. For example, he’s a pretty consistent 3 point shooter. Doughty also has shifty ball handling skills an can finish contested layups. So his skill set is what the NBA typically looks for in shooting guards. But he’s predicted to be drafted in little to no mock drafts. So can Samir make it to the pros? Although his attributes are similar to NBA stars, I don’t think he’ll be drafted because he’s not a high profile player. Unless of course he dominates his scouting workouts. And that seems like something Samir can and will do. War Eagle! #AUNextLevel

Auburn freshman Isaac Okoro enters NBA Draft

As expected, freshman star forward Isaac Okoro has entered the 2020 NBA Draft. Before Okoro’s brief injury, mock drafts had him as high as #4 overall. But since he was injured, his stock went down into the late lottery picks. Potential teams that could draft him are Atlanta, Minnesota, Chicago and more. This isn’t a bad thing for Auburn since Auburn only has two current NBA players. It’s great that bruce pearl is putting more Tigers in the pros. War Eagle! #AUNextLevel
