The overlook – Auburn returns strong talent at safety for 2020. Junior Smoke Monday, who returned an interception for a touchdown against Alabama, leads the safeties. Jamien Sherwood, a big and physical athlete, reminds me of a younger version of former Clemson safety Isaiah Simmons. Malcom Askew, a solid back up for the Tigers will provide much needed depth. Freshman Chris Thompson Jr looks to make an instant impact. I see him in the same role as Smoke Monday was in last year. He’ll likely sub in and out. Jordyn Peters who is a punt block specialist will be there if an injury occurs. Signee Eric Reed Jr should work around Safety and Cornerback. And Zion Puckett should do the same. It’s hard to replace Daniel Thomas and Jeremiah Dinson. But Auburn managed to find a replacement for Tray Matthews and Stephen Roberts when their time as a Tiger was up. Thomas and Dinson replaced them. So I’m confident Auburn will continue to dominate at the Safety position. Another reason you shouldn’t sleep on our Defense this year.
