Ahmari Harvey, 4-star safety, commits to Auburn

https://twitter.com/Ahmari_saucy/status/1218707456425168898/photo/1

A few days ago Auburn landed a huge commitment from 4-star safety Ahmari Harvey out of Florida State University High School in Tallahassee. The Tigers beat out Hometown school Florida State and Texas A&M to land him.

At 5-foot-10 and 171 pounds, Harvey is undersized. But he brings tremendous ball skills to the position. Harvey intercepted six passes as a junior last season and made 40 catches for 642 yards and seven touchdowns.

Looking at his highlights, I’m very surprised he isn’t a 5-star in the rankings. Harvey has some of the most explosive styles a safety can have.

Auburn lands speedy receiver, set to reclassify, play this season

twitter.com

On Friday around 10:00 AM, Malcolm Johnson Jr, a fast 4-star receiver from Arlington, VA, announced his commitment to Auburn over Alabama, Georgia, and other SEC programs.

But Johnson won’t be in Auburn’s 2021 class. He’ll be in its 2020 class. The quick track star decided to reclassify and play for Auburn this season.

This gives Auburn their fifth receiver for 2020. Johnson is joining Kobe Hudson, Ze’Vian Capers, JJ Evans, and Elijah Canion, as the Tigers stack up on receivers.

Malcolm Johnson plans to enroll at Auburn later this week. As for which number he’ll probably wear #19, as it is one of the only receiver numbers open.

Here’s what Johnson said on his commitment…

“I feel like Auburn has a nice family feel and I feel like under any circumstances the school will always have my back,” Johnson said. “That was really important to me.”

Johnson’s high school won’t play football this year due to coronavirus. So that led to him enrolling early.

Sammy Watkins is a great comparison to Johnson, who played under Chad Morris at Clemson.

It’s not about the game anymore. Now only the athletes can save College Football

247sports.com

News is breaking all over the country right now, as College Football is expected to be cancelled this week. It seems the NCAA has almost given up hope that they can make a season happen.

There’s only one thing that can stop what’s coming. The student athletes. Trevor Lawrence and others started a movement. The “we want to play” movement. Players are joining this movement by the hours and it’s rapidly growing. Even a few of your Tigers including Bo Nix, have joined in.

Florida running back Lorenzo Lingard made a heart breaking tweet on Sunday. “I want to play… even if we gotta be locked in .. nothing at home for me.”

Some athletes just want to play. Like Lingard, several athletes are playing the game to support family. It’s more than a game now. And to save it, every athlete needs to join the movement on Twitter, Instagram, etc.

Right now, College Football doesn’t look good. It’s the game that brings friends together. It’s the game that brings flash backs from its history. We all feel nostalgia when we see a game kick off. So, it’s up to the players now.

Chandler Wooten opts out of 2020 season, who can replace him?

newsbreak.com

Auburn’s best backup linebacker Chandler Wooten has opted out of the football season this year. Wooten won’t play this season due to potential threats of coronavirus. He’s also expecting his son’s birth soon which likely played a factor in his decision.

Wooten was a steady tackler last season. So who can replace him? In my eyes, the answer is simple. Freshman Wesley Steiner.

Steiner was a 4-star recruit coming from Warner Robbins, GA. The linebacker was already expected to make a splash in his first season as a Tiger. Now he moves up in the depth chart.

Based on an interview done by AL.com, Steiner’s mind set fits Auburn as well as any recruit ever has. He works hard and puts everything he has on show in practice.

Tigers looking to add more defenders in next few months

247sports.com

Auburn’s recruiting class is only ranked #21 in the country as it’s usually higher than that around August. But Auburn has a big chance to ramp up it’s commitments, specifically in the defensive area.

4-star safety Ahmari Harvey of Tallahassee, FL, has now been predicted more to Auburn than any other school. Florida and Florida State are also both in the mix. In the end of his recruitment, Auburn should be his pick.

4-star defensive end Jeremiah Williams, of Ramsay in Birmingham will soon chose between Auburn and Florida. Things are heating up. And right now, it’s a toss up. But let’s hope he stays home and goes to Auburn.

4-star cornerback Nyland Green from Covington, GA, is looking between Auburn, Georgia, Clemson, and a few others. Clemson seems to be the team to beat. But Auburn feels like they call pull a steal. Right now, Clemson should be his pick.

4-star linebacker Xavian Sorey of IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, is one of the better 4-stars in the class, and looing at Auburn, Alabama, Florida, and a few others. I think he really likes Auburn, but Alabama leads. Looks like as of now, Bama lands him.

5-star outside linebacker Smael Mondon from Dallas, GA, likes Georgia, Auburn and Alabama best. It looks like in the end it’s a battle between Auburn and Georgia. And Auburn is a team that may have a slight lead because of coaching relationships with Mondon. But right now, it’s a toss up.

5-star cornerback Ga’Quincy McKinstry of Pinson, AL, the same school where Bo Nix is from, is down to Auburn, Alabama, & LSU. This should trend down to Auburn and Alabama. And it couldn’t be more 50%-50%. It’s definitely a toss up here.

Why Caylin Newton is so important for Auburn football

Cam Newton's brother Caylin Newton shares first look in Auburn ...
All rights to Auburn Athletics. No copyright intended.

Auburn has a good look at receiver this season. Junior Seth Williams leads the group along with junior Anthony Schwartz. Eli Stove is back to make his last year a good one as the senior slot receiver will be making a final goodbye to Auburn after 2020. Shedrick Jackson, a junior, is developing, and he’s the best blocking receiver on the team, which is no small deal.

But after those guys, there isn’t much experience. Matthew Hill, a talented but under used receiver, also a junior, was moved to defensive back. Auburn lost Jashawn Sheffield, Marquis McClain, and Zach Farrar to the transfer portal recently. That cut Auburn’s depth at receiver tremendously.

Auburn did bring in four of the best receiver recruits in the recruiting class of 2020 however with 4-star Kobe Hudson, who compares slightly to Duke Williams and Darius Slayton, 4-star Ze’Vian Capers, who looks a lot like Tony Stevens, 4-star JJ Evans, a kind of Ricardo Louis athlete, and last but not least, Elijah Canion, a Seth Williams clone.

The Tigers also look to get redshirt freshman Ja’Varrius Johnson the ball, who’ll be playing a Ryan Davis type role as a slot, screen pass receiver.

There’s so much inexperience at receiver for Auburn. But Auburn got some legit help at receiver from Auburn legend Cam Newton’ brother, Caylin Newton.

Newton played quarterback at Howard in Washington D.C., but will make the switch to wide receiver this season with Auburn. Why can he help Auburn? The reason is simple.

While Newton may not have experience at receiver, he does have leadership qualities. He’s a born athlete who can be thrown into any position and succeed with confidence. Caylin may not start at receiver for Auburn, but he will provide depth and a very unique skill set.

Let’s go over this, Auburn used Ryan Davis, who played quarterback in high school, to throw the ball on reverse plays or lateral passes. Several times Davis completed a pass in the action of these plays. Newton will do the same thing. Chad Morris can design plays for Newton to throw the ball, which will catch defenses off guard. Morris can do the same with freshman Kobe Hudson, who was a quarterback and receiver in high school.

Since Newton has an arm, and a pretty good one at that, it gives Auburn an explosive weapon to use. Newton is also likely going to fill a slot/deep threat role at receiver. And even his experience as a football player helps Auburn at receiver.

I really like what Caylin Newton brings to Auburn this year. With Chad Morris calling plays, and two receivers who can throw the ball, we might see some crazy trick plays.

Former Auburn punter rejoins football team

Aidan Marshall

Auburn received big, but quiet news recently. Aidan Marshall, who left the team in 2018 after losing the starting punter job to Arynn Siposs, who’s now in the NFL. With few punters on the roster, Marshall had an opportunity, and took it.

Wearing the same number he did in his previous time at Auburn, as #41, Marshall appeared on the updated Auburn football roster. There is an article about those updates below.

Marshall is a junior, meaning he will likely start for Auburn the next two seasons.

The Tigers also brought in Oscar Chapman from Australia. He may be in a battle for starting punter, but it’s unlikely that he’d win with Marshall’s experience. But Chapman can sit behind Marshall and wait his turn. Then he too, should be a great punter.

Observations to Auburn’s 2020 football roster

Auburn has released its 2020 football roster. There’s a few observations I want to make following its release. Like for example, #0 is now open to College football players. Who wears it for Auburn? Find out bellow.

Owen Pappoe has officially switched from #10, to #0 as he takes the newest number for College Football. #0 is a really cool number, and Pappoe could be remembered as one of the best Tigers to ever wear it.

Anthony Schwartz is no longer #5 as he has transitioned to #1 with Joey Gatewood gone. A cool number for the fastest player in football.

When I predicted freshmen’s jersey numbers in an old article, I ended up guessing about half of the numbers right. Not bad eh?

Star freshman running back Tank Bigsby will suit up as #4 just like in high school.

Two freshmen occupy #5. Receiver Kobe Hudson and safety Chris Thompson now claim the number.

The man who returned a 100 yard pick six vs Alabama, Zakoby McClain, is now #9 over from #35.

Matthew Hill is now listed as a defensive back, as a previous receiver.

Safety Jamien Sherwood is now #20, filling in for Jeremiah Dinson.

Caylin Newton, is #23 and listed as a receiver. Keep in mind, Newton the former quarterback, will be a force in trick plays.

Senior defensive end TD Moultry is now #90, switching from #55.

Transfers like Boobie Whitlow are erased from the roster as they’ve moved on.

Numbers are what give players their unique swag. Interestingly enough, Auburn has multiple number changes this season. War Eagle!

Auburn lands two Defensive linemen in 2021 recruiting class

https://twitter.com/koolkid_quisy/status/1289774069815156736/photo/1

A few days ago, Auburn received big commitments from 3-star defensive end Tobechi Okoli, and Marquis Robinson, a 4-star defensive tackle. Auburn liked film of both of the players. This is a big boost to a class that’d been quiet before.

Tobechi Okoli is a solid tackler with potential of developing better pass rushing ability. He’s got a real shot to do something big if he’s used right. He also sets the edge really well, and as a defensive end myself, that’s very important.

Marquis Robinson was always coveted by Auburn, and it seemed he was always looking at Auburn as well. He’s got nice hands to get inside. A run stopper is what his primary style should be in college. Robinson’s also got real potential.

Both of these players can play a big role in the future Auburn defense. War Eagle!
