The top 15 impact players for Auburn in 2020

(Photo: Jake Crandall)

Let’s hope 2020 football isn’t slipping away. In this article take a look at the top 15 players that impact Auburn the most this year.

  1. K.J. Britt, Senior, Linebacker. With elite tackling skills and a nose for the ball, Britt is easily the most impact player for Auburn this season.
  2. Kaleb Kim, Junior, Center. Kim has the most experience on the new O-Line and has quick feet and a good jab off the snap.
  3. John Samuel Shenker, Junior, Tight End. John Samuel Shenker is a solid tight end. With Morris running the offense, Shenker should get more targets.
  4. Roger McCreary, Junior, Cornerback. With balance and quickness, McCreary carves his way around elite receivers.
  5. Jamien Sherwood, Junior, Safety. Size and speed are what define Jamien Sherwood. He looks to step up as a starter this year.
  6. Bo Nix, Sophomore, Quarterback. In his second year as a Tiger, Nix is hoping to impress with his gunslinger arm and nimble feet.
  7. Big Kat Bryant, Senior, Defensive End. Big Kat is his name and explosiveness is his game. Bryant wants to show the NFL he’s ready in 2020.
  8. Daquan Newkirk, Senior, Defensive Tackle. The defensive tackle has been quiet in previous years, but is ready to make some noise in his final season.
  9. Seth Williams, Junior, Wide Receiver. The potential star receiver looks to emerge. Williams has talent, but needs to take it up a notch.
  10. Zakoby McClain, Junior, Linebacker. McClain is a star in the making. Expect big things from him in 2020.
  11. Christian Tutt, Junior, Cornerback. The explosive punt returner and defensive back is looking to dominate both of his roles.
  12. Mark Antony Richards, RS Freshman, Running Back. Richards is a fantastic athlete with speed, hands, and versatility.
  13. Brodarius Hamm, Junior, Offensive Tackle. More like Brodarius Beef. This guy is nothing but muscle and size.
  14. T.D. Moultry, Senior, Defensive End. Moultry is yet to see his breakout season. But the odds look good for him to finally have one,
  15. Eli Stove, Senior, Wide Receiver. The five year stud is looking to make a splash and Eli Stove exits the College Football world.

Big 10 says only conference football. Is this it for College Football in 2020

sbnation.com

The Big 10 made a tidal wave in the College Football world by limiting their teams to only conference play. The ACC has started to do the same. The Auburn and North Carolina game will be cancelled. The Alabama and USC game was cancelled by the Pac 12. The SEC will soon contemplate whether or not to do the same that the Big 10 has. As of now, I’d say the same decision will be made.

As for now, the College Football plan for 2020 is cloudy. It may clear up in a few weeks. We’ll see. War Eagle!

Jonathan Kuminga to announce Thursday

247sports.com

Jonathan Kuminga didn’t announce when he was scheduled to a few weeks ago. Perhaps he had a change of heart on where to go. Although that night be unlikely. He’s looking to potentially go pro in the G-League, just like Jalen Green, who Auburn barely missed out on.

Kuminga is down to Texas Tech, Auburn, Duke, and Kentucky. But of course there’s still the pro route that is most likely to claim him. Texas Tech is probably the top school on his list, but that’s just what the analysts say. Kentucky seems to have the lowest chance at Kuminga, and Duke and Auburn are about the same in the middle.

Kuminga will announce on Thursday, July 16th, at 1 p.m. CT. He is a 2021 prospect and the #1 player in the 2021 class, but will reclassify to 2020 once he chooses a school. War Eagle!

Cam Newton officially welcomed, making early connections with new teammates

Courtesy of clutchpoints.com. No copy right intended.

Cam Newton is now a New England Patriot. Newton was officially signed and welcomed by the Patriots on Wednesday and with that his jersey’s have been released for sale on big name websites.

But Newton is also forming bonds with his receivers. If Newton wants to win, he’ll need his receivers to step up. After all, he won’t have the luxury of Rob Gronkoski to throw to. So, Cam invited Patriots former first round pick N’Keal Harry to a practice session. The two worked out in Los Angeles before being joined by Browns star receiver Odell Beckham Jr and rapper, Blueface.

Cam Newton will likely be throwing to Julian Edelman and Marqise Lee the most this season. But a few others that could emerge are N’Keal Harry, Mohamed Sanu and Damiere Byrd.

It’s good to know Cam Newton is back. And hopefully, he’s healthy for the whole season. War Eagle!

Ladies and gentlemen, Cam Newton is back

Cam Newton is one of the most talented players in College Football history. We all know what he did. Won a Championship with Auburn and won the Heisman Trophy along with countless other awards. He was the #1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. Newton was released by the Panthers several months ago which sparked several questions. The former NFL MVP was debated and questioned as he was left in the dust by Carolina. Rumors appeared and faded. But he has now found a new team to lead. One of the most dual threat quarterbacks in NFL history signed a one year deal.

So, the once greatest player in the NFL, is back. And that’s a scary thought. On Sunday night out of nowhere, the New England Patriots signed Superman. Recently, Cam had posted a video proving his legs and shoulders were healthy. This likely triggered the Patriots to sign him. The Patriots fans wanted Cam, and they got him. But this move was unexpected because they seemed committed to a different former Auburn Quarterback. Jarrett Stidham. But in the end, this is a dream for Auburn fans. If Cam gets hurt, Jarrett will take over. Or it could be the other way around. You see, Cam will have to win the job, and if his shoulder or legs bother him, that could cost him. We’ll see however. Newton is the seventh former Tiger on the Pats roster joining cornerback Jonathan Jones, linebacker Brandon King, defensive tackle Byron Cowart, defensive end Nick Coe, wide receiver Will Hastings, and quarterback Jarrett Stidham. #Auburn x Patriots

Today, I’ll pick the scores of every week’s predicted Gameday location games. These will be predicted by 247 Sports.

Alabama vs USC (Arlington) Week 1

Two top 25 teams raging to prove something. Alabama wants to show that their dynasty isn’t over while USC hopes to prove Kedon Slovis is much more than a Heisman sleeper and that they are dominant. But come on, this isn’t hard. Alabama 31, USC 17.

Ohio State @ Oregon Week 2

A solid non SEC match up, Oregon needs this win to help their chances at a spot in the CFP. Ohio State hopes to close one out on the road and show that they can beat powerhouses in 2020. Without Herbert, the Ducks don’t look so good. Ohio State 24, Oregon 13.

Georgia @ Alabama Week 3

Georgia with a new QB, a new O-Line, and a new offense, will hope to find a win in Tuscaloosa. Alabama hopes to remain dominant in style. But to be honest, the Dawgs don’t stand much of a chance. Georgia 17, Alabama 34.

Florida @ Tennessee Week 4

The Gators attempting to seize their chance to win the SEC East while Tennessee hopes to pull an upset on their hard core rivals. Tennessee will be looking good at home, but will it be enough? Florida 21, Tennessee 17.

Notre Dame vs Wisconsin (Lambeau Field) Week 5

The Fighting Irish look to fight their way to a likely top 25 match up as the Badgers look to find a way without Jonathan Taylor. But I don’t see Wisconsin finding a way. Notre Dame 27, Wisconsin 10.

Texas @ Oklahoma Week 6

A wild west rivalry, the Longhorns look to prove the doubters wrong in a rough game in Oklahoma as the Sooners want to keep those horns down and keep their Playoff hopes alive. Overall, the best QB will win. Texas 17, Oklahoma 13.

Texas A&M @ Auburn Week 7

Texas A&M wants revenge on their enemy as the Tigers look to keep up their baud dominance over the Aggies. With the home field advantage, and a star studded offense, Auburn wins. Texas A&M 14, Auburn 24 .

Ohio State @ Penn State Week 8

The Buckeyes face a real test as they travel to the deadliest environment in College Football. The Nittany Lions want a dominant upset in a potential top 10 match up. Ohio State 34, Penn State 35.

Florida vs Georgia (Jacksonville) Week 9

Chomp chomp look out as the Gators come to Jacksonville to take on their long awaited rivals. Georgia wants to prove they’re still the kings of the SEC East. Florida 21, Georgia 14.

Clemson @ Notre Dame Week 10

A scary game for the Irish, and a big chance for Clemson. I see this as no more than a blow out. Clemson 42, Notre Dame 21.

North Dakota @ North Dakota State Week 11

An under the radar game in week 11, I don;t think North Dakota stands a chance with NDSU and Trey Lance. North Dakota 10, North Dakota State 38.

Utah @ Arizona State Week 12

Utah wants one more chance to reach the Playoffs while Arizona State and Jayden Daniels look to win big. Utah 13, Arizona State 27.

Michigan @ Ohio State Week 13

As the Wolverines try and upend the Buckeyes, they’ll have to play extremely smart to do so. I don’t think they can play smart enough. Michigan 17, Ohio State 38.

Auburn will get one more shot at landing a 5-star

Courtesy of zagsblog.com

Bruce Pearl has tried his hardest to land another 5-star to accompany Sharife Cooper and top off the best class in program history. But his first effort was outdone by Adam Silver and the NBA G-League when money got in the way of Jalen Green becoming a Tiger whether he’d be a Memphis Tiger or an Auburn Tiger.

It looks as if the G-League which offers elite NBA level development along some money too, might steal Auburn’s last hope at a 5-star player. Jonathan Kuminga, will announce on Monday, and likely choose the G-League. Let’s just say, that league is starting to get on my last nerve. Texas Tech, Auburn, Duke, and Kentucky in order are the most likely schools to land Kuminga if he doesn’t choose the pro route.

Once the #1 prospect in the 2021 class, Kuminga reclassified to 2020, which could potentially be in favor of going pro in the G-League.

This will be Auburn’s last shot to get a 5-star in its 2020 class. Kuminga has a good relationship with Bruce Pearl, but will it be good enough? We’ll find out on Monday. War Eagle!

Carlton Davis switches to #24 in honor of Kobe

Courtesy of espn.com

Former Auburn star defensive back Carlton Davis who is now a starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has decided to switch his number in honor of his life long hero.

“Kobe was my all-time favorite athlete ever since I was a kid,” Davis said during a recent online press conference. “I really looked up to him and the way he carried himself as an athlete, the way he approached the game. His Mamba mentality was everything to me, something I adopted from a young age and I’ve always kept it with me. I’m a huge Lakers fan because of him. And just hearing about his death was just heart-breaking. I didn’t know what to think. I just hate to even think about it because it’s just so surreal that he’s really gone. He passed away way too soon. Yeah, I definitely switched my number because of him. He’s always been a guy who I chased after as far as his greatness and what he’s accomplished, so I would like to continue to do that with his number on.”

Davis will now wear #24 for Tampa Bay as he strives to be his best fore Kobe. Anyone who wears the #24 jersey number, no matter what sport, is carrying thousands of treasured memories with them. It’s a number that will forever be remembered. Davis knows the responsibility and he’s looking to embrace it.

War Eagle. Rest in peace Kobe.
